LOCAL IT FIRM WARNS OF ‘RIP-OFF’ LAPTOP REPAIRS
edgecoms, a local IT consultant, is warning consumers and businesses alike not to waste money on costly laptop repairs. Rather than go to high-street retailers or superstores, edgecoms suggests seeking specialist advice to save time and money.
When laptops stop working the first reaction is to approach well-known retailers but this can be a mistake, according to edgecoms. Once the warranty has expired, it makes little sense to consult computer chain stores when they often don’t have the necessary in-house experience. This can cause lengthy delays and downtime. At worst, misdiagnosis can lead to unnecessary replacement of components and huge over-charging.
edgecoms laptop specialist Trevor Craze has witnessed the problems caused by not seeking expert advice for repairs:
“Computer store staff are rarely IT specialists so laptops usually get sent away for repair. This can leave customers without their computer for weeks. Sometimes, a store may replace the whole motherboard when only a small component is at fault. A credible IT specialist should correctly assess any laptop problem, meaning they only replace what’s defective or carry out a swift repair job.”
