Outsourcing becomes a recession-proofing business tool in 2008

The very real threat of recession has sparked more fears for UK businesses.  One area where companies are cutting back is in recruitment and retention of staff.  Many are turning to external consultancies in order to reduce wage bill burdens, particularly in the IT sector.

Across the UK, thousands of small and large companies are realising the benefits of outsourcing IT at a time when the economic climate is unstable and costs need to be drastically reduced.  By outsourcing IT services, companies can cut out costly in-house IT salaries retain the benefits of on-demand IT support.  If a full recession does occur, staff redundancies will be minimised and essential IT support will be maintained.

Dave Edgecombe, MD of specialist IT consultancy Edgecoms, explains that cutting costs is not the only benefit of outsourcing IT: “Outsourcing can allow an organisation to focus on its core business and gain access to the skills they require, as and when they are required.  Also, many organisations find keeping up with technical developments in computing and communications very difficult and this can lead to inappropriate use of technology which is avoided with an outsourced IT specialist.”

Although many UK businesses are opting for overseas IT outsourcing, most prefer to keep in close contact with their partners and choose local specialists. Edgecoms, based in Gloucestershire currently offer IT consultancy and support to companies of all sizes. Edgecoms’ clients include everything from small local companies with around ten users, to large corporations with networks spanning multi-site environments.
